Intel CPU shortage continues into Q3 2019. Intel’s roadmap shows most of Intel’s CPUs are 14 nm until end of 2020. Early 10 nm chips are low powered mobile chips and definitely not for servers.
Microsoft said in January 2019 that Intel CPU shortage was affecting Windows sale. Now it is singing a different tune. Microsoft now says:
“We feel good about the supply in the Commercial segment and the Premium Consumer segment, which is where the vast majority of our revenue is in OEM,” Microsoft CFO Amy Hood reportedly said on the call. “And so, I think in those segments, we feel fine for Q4.”
AMD is stepping up to fill the void. Earning reports from the next few quarters will reveal how much market share AMD is gaining.
