Roland Quandt, a German journalist had written an article at winfuture.de about MS Surface Laptop 3 using AMD chip, specifically the 15 inch model. He even claimed that there are three AMD-based models.
Roland had twitted that this news is confirmed based on non-public retail info. He further twitted that this is from 100% rock solid sources, no speculation involved.
For the last few months, there have been articles concerning this MS Surface using AMD chip rumor. However, this is the first time I have seen that a credible journalist stuck his neck out and made such a strong claim. He didn’t even qualify his statement. If this is true, then the interaction between Lisa Su and Roanne Sones at the 2019 Computex would make a lot of sense, something about AMD being in 50 % of modern devices in 2019.
Most likely the chip used will be Picasso, not Renoir. This way at least MS can drop Renoir into these designs quickly next year. Unless AMD really pulls a fast one, and TSMC comes through and makes Renoir ready for holidays 2019. If that’s the case, then it would be amazing. Either way, this is big IF TRUE!
